Turkey Give-Away 2007

Yesterday our church gave away 200 turkeys to low income and needy families. It felt sooooo good! I guess because it’s more blessed to give than to receive. 🙂 Please go to my Pastor’s wife’s blog (Ronda Hurst) to see the photos.

This was the first time we “brought” the people to our church for a “give-away”. We weren’t sure how many were going to come but, there were over 200 guests! Praise God!

We had music, testimonies, and free food. We got some Bible Studies and visited with the guests who were so happy to be there. Our Pastor talked a little and invited them to our church services and our Christmas Concert. Then we gave away the turkeys. Everyone was so thankful as we said, “Good-bye and have a Happy Thanksgiving” to them.

We had about 75 turkeys left so a bunch of us took them to a low-income mobile home park. We went door-to-door giving away the free turkeys and a church card. People could not believe we were just giving them away for free and for no reason. We just made their day! One lady in our church and her little girl gave a turkey to an elderly lady who said, “I went to the store today to buy a turkey and left without one because I just didn’t have the money!” She was so thankful that she gave our lady and her daughter each a kiss! Awwwww. There were many more stories like this.

It was a successful day and blessed by God. Today we showed the love of Jesus. The saints of our church that participated had a blast and felt so good about giving. We believe God will bless our efforts and draw the hungry hearts to church to hear the Word of the Lord and be saved.

Mindy, this could not have happened if the saints of the Hollister church didn’t buy turkeys and help with the event. Thanks for what YOUR family did! 😀
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, too! Love you!

  5. Tena,

This is pure religion and undefiled to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. James 2

Thank God for the church whose faith is NOT DEAD!

Keep giving, loving, and blessing. God’s love never fails!

    Love you,
    Shannon
