Camp Meeting ‘08 – Part 2 – Music & Singing

An exciting part of Camp Meeting is the music and singing. I look forward to this part as much as the preaching and teaching. This year did not disappoint.

The choirs were awesome! I really enjoyed the Tulare choir directed by Sis. Parkey. Wow! They were so anointed and she has a LOT of energy! Sis. Parkey’s worship in everything she does is an inspiration to me.

The Way Choir was great, as always, led by Bro. Fitzpatrick. Here’s a clip of them singing this Camp Meeting. These young people are so anointed of God which shows their close relationship with Jesus.

Sis. Jana Allard always blesses me with her anointed singing and awesome voice.

Song services in the evenings were lead by Rev. Sam Emory (pastor in Merced, Ca.). What can I say? No one can lead song service like Bro. Emory! He is great!

I am SOOOO proud of my beautiful, talented Pastor’s wife, Sis. Ronda Hurst as she was used to sing during song service. Below is a pic of her (middle) and Sis. Parkey (right).

I’m also proud of her daughter, Danelle who was used to sing for worship time, also. Danelle has a strong and beautiful voice that God has blessed her with. Pic of her below (middle).

But, must of all, I must admit – I’m EXTREMELY proud of my two sons who were asked to play music at Camp Meeting. Kyle was the only guitarist, so he played every service (day and night). Todd was privileged to play keyboard for one day service. They did an excellent job and had a blast doing it. :)

They play at our church in every service and I am so blessed to have boys who give their talents, that God gave them, back to Him through serving. I want to say a great big, “Thank you” to Luis, who is Bro. Fitzpatrick’s friend. Luis recommended Kyle and Todd to Bro. Fitzpatrick. And, thank you to Sis. Hurst for confirming Luis’ recommendations. :)

My boys are very humble and have a desire to work in the kingdom of God, not to get their name in lights or get accolades. This makes me think of the scripture that says, “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:” ~ I Peter 5:6

They did so well that they were asked to stay and play during Senior Camp, following Camp Meeting, so they did. They are there now. Todd has been used to play keyboard during almost all services and they both are enjoying themselves so much. Just a little F.Y.I., Todd is only 16 (turning 17 this month) and Kyle is 22.

All of the musicians did an outstanding job playing together and helping to usher in the presence of God. Bro. Fitzpatrick (pictured below on keyboard) was the band leader and he was wonderful. Luis played organ and tore up the saxophone.

One more of my boys, please? Thanks. :)

  • Well, I am proud of your boys too. Especially because they happen to be my two oldest grandchildren.
Bro. Fitzpatrick came out of “The Rock church”. He was there the whole time we were. He left there and I don’t know what church he is with now. So, I do know how talented he is. Great family.
Wish I could have been at campmeeting. I miss all that gathering together. Love you, Mom

Wish you could have been there, too, Mom. Love you lots!

  • We were all blessed by the beautiful singing at camp meeting, along with the great playing by the musicians. Tena, you are truly blessed – with children that have a heart after God in wanting to use their talents for Him, for a wonderful pastor’s wife (and pastor), and for being part of a great church family. However, knowing you, you are a blessing to all of them too.

    Yes, I am blessed.
You are just too kind, Sis. Hopper. I sure hope I’m a blessing – I pray to be that every day. Love you.

  • Thank you for sharing that clip of WAY choir singing. I got goose bumps just listening to them!

There’s a scripture that says “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” Oh what joy you must feel! Your boys are fine young men, and talented musicians. Rod and I often talk about them and how dependable, focused, & sold out they are! For boys their age this is commendable indeed! You have every right to sing their praises!

I got a kick out of watching the praise team on Friday night. I don’t think I could’ve kept up with Bro.Emory, but Danelle did! What talent!

Yes, I feel much JOY, Mindy. Thank you so much for your kind words – to God be all the glory.
You do need to be on your toes with Bro. Emory, I’m sure.

  • You got a right to be proud Sis Tena! The music was fantastic and your sons did a great job. That’s how I knew you were there – somewhere – because I recognize your oldest boy on the guitar right away.

    Thanks, Catherine!
Ha! That’s the blogging world for ya! I’m so glad we got to meet in person. I love your accent. :)

  • Sis. Tena,

Your boys did an excellent job. I’m glad they stayed for Senior Camp. You and Len have done a great job raising them. Thank you for your work in the Hospitality tent and for the boys helping in music. The Hollister church family rocks!

    Steve Saiz

Awww…what kind words. Thanks, Bro. Saiz! You guys rock too! :D

  • Tena,
I did not realize that those guys were you and Len’s boys! Wow. . . .how talented! What a blessing to the camp they were! You both have a right to be proud! I know that Pastor & Sis. Hurst were very proud as well!!
The music was incredible this year! I loved how we had such a mixture of age groups. . . .as well as using some of our talented Pastor’s wives. Bro. Fitzpatrick did an awesome job!
