Bing cherries have all been picked and are in the cooler. There are many Rainier cherries still on the trees waiting to be sold, then picked. The 100 + degrees we had today and will continue to have this week will ripen them rapidly, so we have to watch them closely every day.
Our house fruit stand is closed for the season, but our two on Hwy 152 are open every day except Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We are selling our bing cherries (much sorting since they are getting old and too ripe), our Rainiers, local apricots, peaches and nectarines from the valley, local strawberries, and garlic braids. Our plum tree is now loaded, so we’ll sell those, too.
We’ll keep our fruit stands open as long as we can find and buy cherries, once ours are gone. We’re looking at a couple of orchards in Hollister (south of us) that still have some bings and vans. We’ll probably buy from them. We’re hoping to make it to the end of July or beginning of August.
Below are some photos of our Rainier cherries. They are so juicy and sweet, they taste like candy. Let your mouth water.

Recently I have made the firm decision that these are my absolute favorite kind of cherries! I loooove them!!! Andrew was a very bad boy indeed when he didn’t get me more on his last trip up there! Your pics are really great! Am I just imagining it or do they cluster together rather differently than the bings do? Love you lots & lots….
Love you, too!
There are many more of them on a tree than bings. That is the way we wish the bings were, but hasn’t happened, yet. Bings sell 2 to 1 over the Rainiers.
P.S. Look for an early birthday gift in the mail tomorrow (Thursday).

Your pictures are just beautiful. I know you are as busy as a bee but we are missing you in blogland.
Thank you for missing me.

Tena, the bing cherries were delicious! Are the ones you’re harvesting now as good, or better? They look AWESOME in these pictures!
I’ll let you ask your sister. Oh, and Danelle. Ask Danelle.
I would send you some, but they might not make it. They are much more delicate than the bing cherry and bruise easily.

Of course we can get cherries here, silly! I’m sure they aren’t the same as “home-grown” though!
