There is no journey of life but has its clouded days; and there are some days in which our eyes are so blinded with tears that we find it hard to see our way or even read God’s promises.
Those days that have a bright sunrise followed by sudden thunderclaps and bursts of unlooked-for sorrows are the ones that test certain of our graces the most severely.
Yet the law of spiritual eyesight very closely resembles the law of physical optics. When we come suddenly out of the daylight into a room even moderately darkened we can discern nothing; but the pupil of our eye gradually enlarges until unseen objects become visible.
Even so the pupil of the eye of faith has the blessed faculty of enlarging in dark hours of bereavement, so that we discover that our loving Father’s hand is holding the cup of trial, and by and by the gloom becomes luminous with glory.
The fourteenth chapter of John never falls with such music upon our ears as when we catch its sweet strains amid the pauses of some terrific storm, “Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. I will not leave you comfortless.”

Tena, that is such a great column. I especially liked this part:

It’s so true that when things first go wrong, we can see no light–no advantage. Gradually, we adjust.
Thank you for this writing.
Yes, Sis. Buxton, that is when having trust in Jesus and a close walk with Him comes into play. If we’re holding His nail-scared hand, He will lead us when we can’t see. Oh, what a peaceful feeling.

Tena, I enjoyed this post. It was a blessing. I really enjoyed the part from John chapter 14! Even in the midst of the storms of life if we have Jesus then we can enjoy His peace the passeth all understanding. God Bless you and your family! Hopefully they spoiled you a little this week.
So glad this blessed you, Bro. Kevin. All we need is Jesus. If we keep our eyes on Him, we will never drown in life’s storms.
My husband spoiled me.
We took the Roush out for a spin in 70 degrees of sunshine to the Carmel/Monterey/Pacific Grove ocean. Then, dinner at sunset, at the Chart House. Perfect day with my Valentine!

Great post, Tena. It goes right along with some verses that my kids just memorized for Bible quizzing.
Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Eph 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
I hope you have a great weekend!
Wow! What awesome scriptures! Thanks for sharing!
You have a great weekend, too! Love you!

O, for the days of Carmel & Monterey! My wife and I went down there every once in awhile. One time we took a picnic lunch and found a nice bench in Pebble Beach that over looked the ocean. It was a perfect day, sunshine & blue sky etc.. We started getting everything out of our ice chest and all was wonderful until a flock of seagulls flew over! UGH!! We had to go to a gas stataion and clean up a little bit! LOL!! Thank God we didn’t have any food uncovered! But it was a day we will never forget!
